Engineers use computer software to calculate and design storm water flows and flow systems. However, those engineers still revert to the traditional charts developed in the 1970's to determine rock rip rap size and apron length. Using the same criteria as for the traditional curve chart, note the cfs and/or pipe size, and then read the corresponding appropriate ScourStop™ mat configuration at the top of the chart.

This easy reference chart indicates the ScourStop apron length and width needed, and the design is completed with the soil covers referece tool. From design to plain view, ScourStop is an engineered system!

• The indicated configuration will protect the scour area when used with proper soil cover design, indicated on the soil cover reference chart, or list of installation modes, and confirmed in the engineer's design calculations. Erosive forces downstream of the ScourStop™ mats must be calculated and designed for by using channel design software available from major TRM manufacturers- Propex Inc. and North American Green.
  
  
• Input known Q values into the software to determine appropriate soil cover options downstream of the ScourStop™ mats. If outlets are constructed to discharge onto a slope, additional ScourStop™ mats are probably required at the toe of that slope and / or the next change in slope.

A soil cover must be used under ScourStop™. This reference tool is quick and easy for designers and distributors to determine what soil cover options they have. There are multiple soil cover options because of different climate regions, different soil types, site environments, and cultural practices; as well as risk tolerances and pricing. Atypical site conditions require identifying more stringent applications, and thus the need to collaborate with the manufacturer to ensure an effective erosion control system. **Remember, ScourStop™ is not utilized alone. The ScourStop™ system is constructed over a soil cover.
